Mike focuses his practice on ensuring that clients’ vital business interests are protected when the Maine legislative and executive branches are at work. He assists local and national companies attempting to positively impact public policy, first by closely monitoring legislative activity and then by strategically advocating on his clients’ behalf. He also helps guide clients seeking to do business with the State of Maine through the public procurement process.
Mike has had a full-time presence in the Capitol since 2000. He served for two years as Chief Legal Counsel to Maine Governor John E. Baldacci, Jr. In that capacity, he advised the Governor on a host of public policy issues, and worked with legislators, senior administration officials and various stakeholders towards achieving the Governor’s policy objectives. Before joining the Governor’s Office, Mike was a partner in the Government Relations Practice Group of a large Maine law firm. Mike began his legal career in Boston, Massachusetts, first as a law clerk at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court, and then as an associate at Hale and Dorr, LLP.
Away from the State House, Mike serves on the board of Jobs for Maine’s Graduates, and recently completed a stint on the board of the Finance Authority of Maine. He also remains active coaching youth sports and volunteering for local organizations.
